The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt

As part of our Caldecott Review project, we read The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt and illustrated by Oliver Jeffers.  Once we finished reading, students were surprised to find letters from objects in their pencil boxes.  Here is a sampling.  You can read the rest at open house.

Double Timelines and Events in History

In social studies we read the picture books Fireboat and The Man Who Walked Between the Towers, both stories about events in New York City that included mentions of 9/11.   Students created double timelines with events related to 9/11 on one side of the line, and events depicted in the two books on the other side. Students learned to annotate research notes from different sources, how to accurately space decades on a timeline, and about the fascinating story of Philip Petit, the French man who walked a tightrope between the Twin Towers in 1974.  Students’ timelines will be posted as they finish.

Student Report: Super Read

Report by Daniel, Alex, and Hayden

Do you know what a Super Read is?  If you guessed sitting around and reading all day, you are right!  Our plan is on Wednesday, May 30th, 2013 in the afternoon, the whole 3rd grade class will be reading. If all goes well, it should go from 1:00 p.m. until  3:10 p.m.  If you’re in Mrs. Williams’ class, bring a good book so you don’t get bored!
