How do you keep from breaking an egg that has been dropped 7 1/2 meters out of a window? You ask a group of 3rd grade students to design a safety device to protect the egg.
According to the 3rd grade students in room 17: First, we planned it all out. Next, we did research on race cars, parachutes and other egg drops. Later, we made our designs using ordinary materials that you can find around your house or in your classroom. We used plastic bags, paper towels, Styrofoam cups, and other useful materials. Finally, we dropped them out the window when our designs were done. We learned: That the weight of the container affects the parachute; Simple designs can work; That the impact should be absorbed by the container, not the object inside.
Did we succeed? Watch our video to find out.

Did you miss the annual Halloween parade and party? Here is a quick look at the parade and party. Click the Halloween link:
Music had to be cancelled on Friday, so we practiced reading fluency and combined it with some funny songs to the tunes of old standards. We’ll use the recorded video so students can get a chance to see how they look when standing in front of a group and presenting. One of the things we work on in third grade is communication and presentation skills. To enjoy the movie, click the link below.
tPoetry Readings, Black History Month Assembly
While the quality of the video isn’t great, the poetry readings themselves are priceless. Enjoy.
